Music composition
by Ovadiah Tank
The best way to compose a song and or a soundtrack is to memorize small fragments of music, and then learn to change and combine those fragments in very specific ways.
Harmony, melody, form – these are not skills. They are categories. A composition skill should be repeatable, and have a clear goal.
Film score vs Soundtrack
Soundtrack is recorded music accompanying and synchronized to the images of a motion picture, book, television program, or video game; a commercially released soundtrack album of music as featured in the soundtrack of a film, video, or television presentation; or the physical area of a film that contains the synchronized recorded sound.
A film score (also known as background score, background music, film music, screen composition, screen music, or incidental music) is original music written specifically to accompany a film for the actors.
Music in film serves several functions. Among them, it helps shape emotional responses, creates a rhythm to scenes and segments, and comments on the action. Music is often crucial to the experience of a scene and, in some cases, becomes as iconic as the movies themselves.
